WHAT IS PHYSICAL HEALTH?

‘Physical health can be defined as normal functioning of the body at all levels’

We can break this down into some categories below.

Physical activity – Strength, endurance & flexibility

Nutrition & Diet – Nutrient & fluid intake while maintaining a healthy weight

Booze & drugs – Reduced intake to maintain a healthy life.

Rest & Sleep – Quality sleep & relaxation techniques

Medical/self-care – dealing with minor ailments or seeking medical attention when needed.

I will say one main point on medical self-care.

Don’t hide away from it… It’s better to be safe than sorry.

If something is persistent go get it checked.

You need to look after your physical health!

Majority of adults neglect this and come up with a million and one excuses only to look back years later saying they wished they had prioritised it.

Today is the day!

Prioritise your physical health before god forbid you get smashed with a preventable disease, at this point those excuses no longer become valid and you see people attempt a full lifestyle change.

Start today and build up your efforts over time.

Physical activity

Humans should be doing some form of ‘exercise’ daily, a mixture of structured training and leisure.

Walking is leisure.

Strength training & cardio are structured.

Strength training is a MUST if you want to grow old in better shape, it prevents many avoidable issues through weak bones and lack of muscle… Aim for min of 3 times per week.

Aim to get the heart rate up each day whether it’s through cardio, walking etc.

Nutrition

Eat for your ideal weight… not your environment.

Unfortunately we are not all 6 foot 5, so you can’t eat like you are.

Eat a wide variety of fruits & vegetables each day, majority of your food should be ‘plant based’ forget the sugar myth!

Proteins at every meal and if you’re getting older you can also have a serving before bed also.

A mixture of fats & carbs.

Aim for a well balanced diet that includes all food groups, there is no need to cut out food groups or overly restrict.

Drink fluids constantly throughout the day aim for mostly water but everything is also included… remember healthy & well balanced.

A good rule of thumb is majority of the times you go for a pee it should be clear ish… if it smells like sugar puffs… drink more fluid.

Booze & Drugs

Even though Jesus did it… Wine is not water.

Booze & drugs aren’t medicines, I am not going to teach you to suck eggs you’re an adult.

Drink for fun not to mask.

Avoid it becoming a problem, same if you do take drugs.

Rest & Sleep

How do you relax?

What do you do?

Your body needs rest this is where it recovers and grows.

Aim to get decent sleep, If your sleep is shit then have a look at your training levels.

People who exercise usually get better quality sleep.

Aim for roughly 7-9 hours or short naps can also help.

This is YOUR responsibility.

All these points above are doable for every person in here & every person in the world, prioritising is key.

Consistency is key.

You have your health in your own hands.

If you struggle reach out and look for help instead of hiding away in the background!

Work, children, time etc will not be a good enough excuse to you if the PREVENTABLE happens.

Use the evidence and all the tools provided to you to create a successful routine that focuses on YOURhealth as a whole.
